FOR MAYOR
Joey Allen has called Bishop, Georgia home for 25 years. He has spent his career working closely with property owners, helping individuals shape the places they call home. That same thoughtful, results-oriented approach guides his public service.
A former member of the Bishop Town Council, Joey understands the importance of leadership that’s rooted in the community. He is committed to keeping Bishop safe, welcoming, and well-planned for his two sons and other families—now and in the future.
“As Bishop continues to grow, we face real challenges like traffic circulation, safety, smart use of SPLOST funds, and the need for transparency in decision-making. But growth shouldn't come at the cost of what makes Bishop special.”
That’s why Joey Allen is running: to bring thoughtful, experienced leadership that plans for Bishop’s future while protecting the small-town values that make it a great place to live. With integrity, transparency, and a proven record of working with people to solve problems, Joey is ready to lead Bishop forward.
TOWN COUNCIL, POST 4 (INCUMBENT)
Mindy Porterfield is a steadfast conservative voice dedicated to preserving Bishop’s small-town charm and historic character. A proud lifelong resident with family roots here dating back to the early 1900s, Mindy has consistently voted for sound financial management, accountability, and transparency.
She has been the only member of the current council willing to stand up against misconduct. When others looked the other way, Mindy spoke up—for taxpayers, for law-abiding governance, and for Bishop’s integrity. Her hands-on, common-sense approach reflects her deep commitment to serving residents, not political allies.
Mindy believes in preserving what makes Bishop unique while ensuring that growth and planning reflect the will of its citizens, not the whims of entrenched insiders.
TOWN COUNCIL, POST 3
Greg Montgomery is a lifelong Oconee County native and longtime Bishop resident. A small business owner in the natural gas and propane industry, Greg brings practical experience, fiscal discipline, and a strong commitment to accountability in local government.
He is running unopposed after the Oconee County Board of Elections unanimously ruled that his opponent, Hudson Holder, was ineligible to serve.
Greg stands for integrity, not insider protection, and is ready to get to work and put Bishop’s citizens first.
TOWN COUNCIL, POST 2
A.J. Schmidt is a devoted husband and father with a deep love for his community. Active in his church and community, A.J. wants to bring that same heart for service to Town Hall.
His priorities are clear: keep Bishop’s small-town values front and center, demand transparency in how tax dollars are spent, and invest in safety and infrastructure. From safer roads to reliable services, A.J. will work tirelessly to ensure Bishop remains a place where families thrive and neighbors look out for one another.
A.J. believes Bishop deserves leaders who listen to citizens—not lecture them. He’s running to restore trust, accountability, and common sense to local government. With integrity and openness, he’ll work to protect what makes Bishop special while planning responsibly for the future.
TOWN COUNCIL, POST 1
Jacob Spaulding is a U.S. Army veteran and father of four who believes in service rooted in faith and community. After eight years as an Engineer Officer in the Army, Jacob worked for Athens-Clarke County Public Works and now supports electric infrastructure projects across the Southeast.
Jacob has been an outspoken critic of the Mayor and current council for their financial mismanagement and mistreatment of St. Aelred Catholic Church and its children’s academy, where his own children attend. He believes Bishop’s priorities are backwards—spending tens of thousands on the “Bishop Boogie” while neglecting safety and infrastructure.
He envisions a transparent, forward-looking council that works hand-in-hand with GDOT and Oconee County to make Bishop safe and walkable. Jacob’s vision is one of accountability, stewardship, and respect for every family in Bishop.
The Department of War does not endorse this candidate.
